What is Spirituality?
“Spirituality” is one of those deep, personal words that can mean different things to different people. At its core, spirituality is about a sense of connection—whether that’s to something greater than ourselves (like the universe, God, or a higher power), to other people, to nature, or even to our own inner selves.
Here are a few common ways people experience or define spirituality:
Religious Spirituality – For some, spirituality is tied to a specific religion. It involves following teachings, rituals, and practices to connect with the divine.
Personal Spirituality – Others see it more as a personal journey—exploring inner peace, meaning, and purpose outside of organized religion.
Connection & Presence – Many define spirituality as being fully present in the moment, feeling deeply connected to life and others, and living with compassion, mindfulness, and gratitude.
Transcendence & Meaning – Spirituality often involves searching for deeper meaning in life, questioning our place in the world, or having moments where we feel part of something bigger.
Practices – Common spiritual practices include meditation, prayer, journaling, yoga, spending time in nature, and acts of kindness.
How someone practices or defines spirituality really depends on their background, beliefs, and personal experiences.
